Bar #33: Cuba Libre, 2nd and Market
Our next stop was a block away at Cuba Libre, a Cuban restaurant and bar known for serving up some of the best mojitos in Philadelphia. Excited to confirm (or disprove) this rumor, we chose two flavors from their extensive mojito selection: cherry for me and raspberry for Emily ($11 each). Both drinks definitely met our high expectations —they were extremely flavorful without being too sweet like many mojitos. Our one complaint was that they didn’t seem strong enough to justify their price, but the minty deliciousness more than made up for that.
Besides its mojitos, our next favorite thing about Cuba Libre was its Havana-themed décor, which included exotic foliage and colorful murals on the walls. This environment provided a welcome escape from the cold February night outside, though we would have preferred the bar area to be bigger, so that we could stand a bit further away from the drafty doorway. Perhaps aware of this (or of our blog?!), our awesome bartender offered us complimentary tequila shots, which warmed us up considerably and prepared us to venture back out into the cold to continue our epic Old City journey!
More to come…
